Alex D'Angelo
Senior Engineering Manager with 12+ years of leadership across fintech, AI, and B2B SaaS. I've led product engineering teams through rapid growth, from first U.S. hire to a 40+ person global org.
I foster a supportive environment where being open and vulnerable builds deeper trust, encourages risk-taking, and makes the team stronger.
Experience
Senior Engineering Manager · RentSpree
RentSpree (Series B proptech) helps agents and landlords collaborate on rentals. I intentionally chose an EM role to stay close to the team and code.
- Rebuilt a struggling team that shipped Landlord Pro from 0 to 1 in 4 months: grew the team to 8 engineers (hired 4), leading it as domain eng lead to launch a new fintech product spanning property management, financials, and embedded banking, partnering with a peer manager in Thailand and a banking vendor. Now in production with paying customers and live deposits.
- Shipped AI/LLM-powered lease data extraction to production: extracts structured lease data to speed up rental unit setup. Championed accuracy benchmarking to catch model drift, seeding the org's first eval pipeline.
- Cut support tickets 49% while payment volume doubled: fixed root causes and shipped self-serve features, saving $150K+/year in support costs.
- Recovered 1,000+ engineering hours/year: identified env-switching as the org's top DevEx drain (2+ hours/engineer/week), got it prioritized on the DevEx roadmap, and personally contributed additional fixes.
- Drove AI tooling adoption across my team: faster bug triage, AI-built dashboards, quicker PR testing, with practices spreading org-wide.
- Set direction beyond my team: wrote the domain technical strategy (user trust, retention, eng productivity) and served as primary voice to execs on domain engineering health.
- Redesigned career levels for a 60-engineer org: my initiative; partnered with the CTO and HR to design new levels, now used org-wide for promotions, hiring, and reviews.
Caregiving
Stayed hands-on building AI agent projects with Python, OpenAI, and Cursor.
Head of Engineering · Craft
Craft (Series B) is a supply-chain risk platform. Led the 40+ person global engineering and IT organization.
- Unblocked a $2M deal: proposed a reusable data integration layer in our platform that resolved a Fortune 100 customer's integration and data privacy concerns, while cutting development and support costs by ~$300K annually.
- Scaled a diverse global org to 40+ engineers with nearly zero regrettable attrition. Overhauled hiring with Recruiting, achieving a ~90% offer acceptance rate.
- Turned around an org with high attrition and low morale: raised one team's NPS health score by 30 points in a single quarter.
- Delivered flagship B2B SaaS, consumer apps, and API with weekly releases. Championed SOC 2 compliance, supporting the infra team through certification.
- Drove technical efficiency: cut development costs by $200K+, data support costs by 75%, and CI/CD time by 50%.
Director of Engineering · Craft
- First U.S. engineering hire: built the North American org from 1 to 15 engineers across 3 teams, establishing hiring, onboarding, and engineering practices from scratch.
- Established incident response and SLAs with Customer Success: rolled out global on-call for all engineers with training and playbooks.
- New engineers pushed code on day 1: revamped onboarding with setup automation.
Software Development Manager · PayScale
PayScale (Series D) is a compensation data platform.
- Led 10 engineers across two distributed full-stack teams and 3 core B2B SaaS products. Delivered a v1 cloud-based pay cycle admin app while improving performance, security, and test coverage.
- Served ~3M unique data-driven pages to tens of millions of visitors. Led the team that scaled the site on AWS CloudFront, S3, WAF, and HAProxy.
- My hack-day project generated $180K+ in new pipeline opportunities. Sales leadership cited it as the basis for staffing a chat team that grew into a 20-person SDR function.
