Alex D'Angelo
Senior Engineering Manager with 15+ years leading product engineering teams through rapid growth, from first U.S. hire to a 40+ person global org.
I lead by example, rolling up my sleeves to contribute and solve technical challenges. I foster a supportive environment where being open leads to deeper connections, growth from taking risks, and a stronger team overall.
Experience
Senior Engineering Manager · RentSpree
RentSpree (Series B proptech) helps agents and landlords collaborate on rentals. I intentionally chose an EM role to be closer to the team and code.
- Launched Landlord Pro: domain engineering lead for a new fintech product spanning property management, financials, and embedded banking, from inception to launch in 4 months. Managed the U.S. team and partnered with a peer manager in Thailand and a banking vendor, with customers and deposits growing since launch.
- Shipped AI lease data extraction: led delivery of a production AI feature extracting structured data from lease documents, cutting clicks and task time for property managers. Built accuracy benchmarking to catch model drift and seed a full eval pipeline.
- Cut support tickets 49% while payment volume doubled: fixed root causes and shipped self-serve features, saving $150K+/year in support costs.
- Rebuilt an inherited team: took over a struggling team and grew it to 8 engineers (hired 4), introducing rotating tech leads and parallel workstreams. This team shipped Landlord Pro.
- Wrote the domain technical strategy centered on user trust, retention, and engineering productivity; co-wrote the broader product domain strategy. Primary voice to execs on domain-wide engineering, performance, and support health.
- Championed AI adoption: every engineer adopted and demoed an AI tool, leading to faster bug triage, AI-built insight dashboards, and quicker PR testing. Several tools spread to other teams.
- Redesigned career levels for a 60-engineer org (my initiative), partnering with leadership and HR. Now used org-wide for promotions, hiring, and performance reviews.
- Reduced the org's top DevEx drain: environment switching cost engineers 2+ hours a week. Prioritized it on the DevEx roadmap and personally contributed fixes, recovering 1,000+ engineering hours a year.
Caregiving
Stayed hands-on building AI agent projects with Python, OpenAI, and Cursor.
Head of Engineering · Craft
Craft (Series B) is a supply-chain risk platform. Led the 40+ person global engineering and IT organization.
- Unblocked a $2M deal with a reusable technical solution I proposed, while reducing development and support costs by ~$300K annually.
- Scaled a diverse global org to 40+ engineers with nearly zero regrettable attrition. Overhauled hiring with Recruiting, achieving a ~90% offer acceptance rate.
- Turned around an org with high attrition and low morale; boosted one team's NPS health score by +30.
- Delivered flagship B2B SaaS and consumer apps and API with weekly releases; achieved SOC 2 compliance.
- Drove technical efficiency: cut development costs by $200K+, data support costs by 75%, and CI/CD time by 50%.
Director of Engineering · Craft
- First U.S. engineering hire; built the North American org from 1 to 15 engineers across 3 teams, establishing hiring, onboarding, and engineering practices from scratch.
- Established incident response and SLAs with Customer Success, plus global on-call for all engineers with training and playbooks.
- Revamped onboarding with setup automation so new engineers could push code on day 1.
Software Development Manager · PayScale
PayScale (Series D) is a compensation data platform.
- Led 10 engineers across two distributed full-stack teams and 3 core B2B SaaS products; delivered a v1 cloud-based pay cycle administration app while improving performance, security, and test coverage.
- Led the team serving ~3M unique data-driven pages to tens of millions of visitors; scaled the site using AWS CloudFront, S3, WAF, and HAProxy.
- My hack-day project generated $180K+ in new opportunities and sparked the creation of a 20-person SDR function.
